Help us connect with customers, partners and stakeholders and develop strategies in our Space Sector.

The space industry is highly collaborative and we have strong connections with UK and international partners across industry, academia and space agencies. NPL's measurement expertise is applied right across the space sector, in improving spacecraft manufacturing and testing techniques, in future payload instruments, and in analysing and quality assuring the global datasets generated to support critical applications such as climate change and precision timing.

Developing and maintaining these relationships you will also set strategic direction and generate opportunities to deliver impact in the sector and to collaborate with and deliver projects for our partners and customers across industry, academia and government.

You will formulate and lead strategic collaborations, develop research proposals for grant applications and win commercial contracts. Part of a strong and talented strategy and BD team, you will lead work on the space sector across NPL's GBP90m portfolio, becoming a recognised and respected face of NPL within the space sector, attending critical industry meetings and workshops on behalf of the laboratory. You will become a trusted voice of the customer within NPL, ensuring scientists across the laboratory develop capability driven by future needs of the space sector.

You will collaborate across a range of industrial and governmental organisations* to develop new and exciting ideas and propositions. You will foster further collaborations with leading universities, contributing to NPL's regional growth strategy.

Skills and Experience

  • Inquisitive, confident and motivated to connect with and influence external partners at all levels, you will be collaborative, a strong communicator, able to build internal and external partnerships. Managing key accounts, you know how to nurture relationships over time.
  • You will have experience of developing bold, strategic ideas with a mix of industrial and governmental stakeholders. Ideally you will have experience in the space sector.
  • While we don't expect an in-depth scientific knowledge, you must have a passion for science and innovation and be comfortable communicating technical concepts to a broad audience.
