My client, an NHS trust, has a vacancy for a Desktop Support Engineer. This is a permanent post in the IM&T Department. The role requires experience and knowledge in supporting circa 2500 Microsoft Desktop PC's and mobile devices. The Trust has a variety of end user computing devices, including business iPad's and Android tablets and virtual desktop services using VMware technologies. The post-holder will work in the Desktop Support Team to support and deliver end user computing to our customers. They will be required to manage their workload, ensure incidents and problems assigned to the team are resolved within the specified targets, and provide specialist knowledge and guidance on technical aspects of end user computing services. They are looking for an individual with experience in an IT technical role who has at least 3 years' experience of supporting end user computing in a Microsoft IT infrastructure. The applicant must be proficient and able to demonstrate Microsoft's approach of resolving PC operating system, application and hardware problems. Other essential skills include wireless corporate networks, malware protection, IT service management practices (ITIL), developing written procedures in support of routine activities performed by the Desktop Support Team, and providing advice to users and peers on system function and best practice. A relevant Microsoft qualification would be desirable. Experience of mobile device support and fault finding on a business secure Wireless LAN, would be ideal. Detailed knowledge of fault finding and resolving Sophos issues on a large corporate network. First-hand experience and confidence of administrating Microsoft SCCM and application packaging would be an advantage.
