Solution Architect Location: Surrey Duration: 3 Months JOB PURPOSE To act as a consultant in the field of Solution Architecture for the authority and provide advice and consultancy both at a strategic and tactical level to ensure that IT&D business solutions meet service objectives and are architecturally aligned, robust and fit for purpose. To provide direction and guidance on the development of, and modifications to solution components to ensure that they take account of relevant architectures, strategies, policies, standards and practices. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1.Work with the services through Technology Boards and other service engagement channels to review service business drivers, needs and strategies and understand implications to the application, processes, infrastructure and data architecture and potential impact on IT&D business solutions delivery. 2.To contribute to the development and maintenance of a technology roadmap that supports delivery of the each of the council's services strategies and priorities, in accordance with strategic direction. 3.Advise on the best solution approach including IT&D prioritisation, indicative timescale and high-level options ensuring adherence to the business solutions strategy, architectural standards and technology roadmap and the effective use of resources. 4.Provide advice and consultancy to the organisation in solution design. Work with other architects, technical specialists, IT&D management and senior service stakeholders to develop and implement the technical roadmap, in accordance with the strategic direction. 5.Create and develop architectural standards and quality procedures. 6.Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging standards 7.Work alongside functional and business analysts to evaluate and make recommendations/decisions on the exploitation of the solution architecture to deliver best value. 8.Works closely with application portfolio specialists, developers and other technical specialists in the development of solution architectures for complex systems, ensuring solution consistency with specified requirements and design throughout the solution lifecycle. 9.Act as the Design Authority on projects ensuring that the proposed options and solution outputs adhere to architecture standards, the detailed designs adhere to the signed off High Level Design, architectural change is well managed and all design documents are completed and kept up to date. 10.Familiarise, uphold and promote the aims of the council's Equality and Diversity policies in the course of day-to-day work. PERSON SPECIFICATION Education, Training and Work Qualifications Degree or professional qualification in a business related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. Relevant IT Qualifications, e.g. architecture certification, or equivalent relevant experience. Skills and Abilities Ability to make architectural improvements that will have a significant effect on value for money/service effectiveness for the authority. Excellent communication skills, combined with the ability to present information clearly at all levels Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer needs and translate them into clear business requirements Ability to identify and estimate project resource requirements Ability to work pragmatically to ensure solutions are delivered whilst retaining the appropriate governance Ability to challenge poor design and the inappropriate selection of use of technology and promote good practice. Innovative approach to problem solving - ability to think 'outside of the box' Expertise in solution design, process and data modelling Ensure that all documentation required is produced in line with best practice. Ability to monitor architectural standards, e.g. TOGAF so that solutions meet current Government requirements and align with industry best practice.
